Armour Octa: the tough guy of the Vaporesso family

The Armour range was never really designed to slip discreetly into the bottom of a pocket. With the Armour Octa, Vaporesso fully embraces the concept: a powerful, substantial box mod built above all to take a beating.

The kit measures 146.3 x 30.8 x 55 mm and weighs 362 g. So it is certainly not the lightweight member of the group, but that extra bulk comes with particularly robust construction and a secure grip thanks to its soft, non-slip surface.

In other words: if you are looking for a tiny discreet pod, you have probably wandered into the wrong aisle. If you like serious, powerful and well-protected box mods, now we are talking.

A box mod ready to face water, dust and impacts

This is, of course, where the Armour Octa earns its name. Vaporesso has built multiple layers of protection around the mod, making it particularly suitable for users who take their e-cigarette absolutely everywhere.

• IP6X: maximum protection against dust and fine particles
• IP8X: waterproof to a depth of up to 1 metre for more than 30 minutes (in other words, vaping in the rain should not be a problem)
• IPX9K: resistance to high-pressure water jets
• Impact resistance: drop-tested from up to 1.2 metres across 26 different angles (spare a thought for the tester)

Warning: these protection ratings apply to the Armour Octa box mod. The iTank T clearomiser fitted on top does not carry the same certifications.

Protection down to the smallest details

The Armour Octa is not content with a reinforced shell and a few IP ratings. Several smaller details show that Vaporesso has genuinely thought about everyday use.

The USB-C port features a silicone cover to help maintain a good seal. Several reinforced TPU areas are also designed to absorb impacts more effectively and protect the sensitive parts of the box mod. Finally, the non-slip coating on the grip provides excellent handling.

The Overtime Protection 2.0 system also monitors abnormally long or repeated activations. Just in case someone forgets to lock the mod before putting it in their pocket.

220W and AXON 3.0 chipset: plenty of power under the bonnet

The Armour Octa can deliver up to 220W. That is far more power than the two included coils actually require, but it leaves plenty of headroom for using different GTi coils and tailoring your vape.

The AXON 3.0 chipset controls the whole setup and offers four modes to adapt its behaviour to your vaping style:

• Pulse: delivers power in rapid pulses to maintain a responsive and sustained vape
• Eco: prioritises battery life from the two 18650 cells with more economical operation
• Boost: increases power at the start of the puff to heat the coil more quickly
• TC: for those who are still into rebuildables. Allows temperature control with compatible stainless steel (SS), nickel (Ni) or titanium (Ti) wires

The 0.96" colour TFT display keeps the main information clearly visible, while a switch-lock system saves you from having to perform a five-click combination every time you put the box mod away.

Two 18650 batteries to keep you going

To power its 220W output, the Armour Octa uses two 18650 batteries. They are not supplied with the kit. If you are not already equipped, you can find what you need in our selection of batteries.

Vaporesso also includes its Battery Guard system. The box mod monitors the voltage difference between the two batteries and can cut the output if that difference becomes too large. A useful feature for both safety and battery longevity.

USB-C charging supports up to 5V / 2.5A and also includes overheating protection. Charging stops automatically if the temperature exceeds 75°C.

Good to know: although the Armour Octa allows the batteries to be charged directly via USB-C, we recommend using a dedicated external charger for more appropriate charging and better battery monitoring.

An iTank T under heavy guard

The Armour Octa Kit comes with the iTank T Dual Mesh, Vaporesso’s DTL clearomiser. Its capacity reaches 6 mL, which is particularly well suited to high-powered vaping where e-liquid consumption can quickly climb.

Vaporesso has not only protected the box mod: a TPU guard also wraps around part of the tank to help reduce the consequences of everyday knocks while keeping the e-liquid level visible.

The iTank T Dual Mesh features an enlarged dual airflow designed to deliver an airy, generous and smooth draw. This is clearly a clearomiser built to open the floodgates, not imitate the tight draw of a cigarette. The airflow remains adjustable so you can enjoy different DTL vaping sensations.

GTi Dual Mesh: two coils to get you started

Vaporesso includes two GTi Dual Mesh coils. Their dual-mesh architecture increases the heating surface for even vaporisation, generous vapour production and excellent flavour reproduction.

• GTi Dual Mesh 0.2 ohm: generous DTL vape – 60 to 75W – best performance announced at around 65W – recommended PG/VG ratios from 30/70 to 20/80 – recommended nicotine strengths up to 3 mg/mL
• GTi Dual Mesh 0.4 ohm: slightly more moderate DTL vape – 50 to 60W – best performance announced at around 55W – recommended PG/VG ratios from 40/60 to 30/70 – recommended nicotine strengths up to 6 mg/mL

Good to know: to make even greater use of your Armour Octa’s power, a 0.15 ohm version of the GTi Dual Mesh coil is also available (sold separately).

The iTank T Dual Mesh also remains compatible with other GTi coils, including the 0.15, 0.2 and 0.4 ohm versions.

Why do we like the Armour Octa?

Because Vaporesso has not simply made another dual-battery box mod, stuck three pieces of rubber on it and called it Armour.

The Armour Octa genuinely pushes the concept quite far: two 18650 batteries, 220W, reinforced protection, battery monitoring, protected iTank T, GTi Dual Mesh coils and the AXON 3.0 chipset. Everything is designed for vapers who want a powerful e-cigarette without having to handle it like a museum piece.

It is big, it fully embraces its armoured-vehicle look and it will probably never win an award for the most discreet box mod. But for work, DIY, travelling or simply vaping without panicking every time the box slips off the table, it has some serious arguments in its favour.
