Aegis Solo 5: still solo, but better equipped

The Aegis Solo has always occupied a slightly special place in the Geekvape family: powerful enough to deliver serious performance, but more compact than a large dual-battery box mod.

With this fifth generation, Geekvape keeps the same recipe but improves several genuinely useful everyday features: 21700 compatibility, a larger screen, a new locking system and a new clearomiser.

An Aegis design you recognise at first glance

The Aegis Solo 5 stays true to the DNA of the range: a compact silhouette, rugged lines and a construction that immediately gives a feeling of solidity. Geekvape retains the combination of metal, soft-touch coating and reinforced areas that has defined the Aegis family for several generations.

With dimensions of 146.1 × 42.55 × 31 mm, the kit remains relatively compact for a 21700-compatible box mod. The grip feels firm and reassuring, with a good balance between battery life, power and overall size.

The 1.08" screen sits neatly on the front alongside the adjustment buttons and A-Lock system. The result is very Geekvape: functional, tough and no-nonsense. Several colour options are available, including a particularly appealing gold tank on a blue box mod.

100W with a 21700 or 18650 battery

The Aegis Solo 5 delivers adjustable power from 5 to 100W. More than enough to comfortably run the Z Subohm Tank 5 and a wide range of sub-ohm clearomisers on the market.

The real evolution comes from the battery. While previous generations mainly relied on 18650 cells, the Solo 5 now accepts a 21700 battery, a more attractive option for power-hungry sub-ohm vaping.

Prefer sticking with your 18650 batteries? No problem: a 18650-to-21700 adaptor is included in the kit.

Warning: the battery and charging cable are not included.

Good to know: USB-C charging up to 5V / 2A allows you to recharge the battery directly inside the box mod. We nevertheless recommend using a dedicated external charger for more suitable charging and better monitoring of your batteries.

Smart or Power: Geekvape keeps things simple

The Aegis Solo 5 features the AS Chip 4.0, Geekvape’s in-house chipset. It offers excellent responsiveness and different operating modes without unnecessarily complicating the experience.

Geekvape keeps things straightforward here with two main modes:

• Smart: detects the installed coil and automatically suggests a suitable wattage
• Power: lets you manually adjust the wattage according to your preferences

Smart mode is ideal for avoiding unsuitable settings, while Power mode gives more freedom to users who prefer to stay in control. In both cases, the AS Chip 4.0 delivers a quick response and stable power output.

A 1.08" screen and the return of A-Lock

Geekvape replaces the previous 0.96" display with a 1.08" screen and a refreshed interface. The main information is therefore easier to read, including wattage, coil resistance and battery level.

The Solo 5 drops the Touch-Lock system found on the Solo 3 S100 and returns to a much more reliable A-Lock switch. One quick flick of your thumb fully locks the mod.

You can also simply lock the adjustment buttons while still being able to vape with the fire button. Just press and hold both adjustment buttons for 2 seconds.

IP68: an Aegis is still an Aegis

No question of taking off the armour now. The Aegis Solo 5 retains an IP68 Tri-Proof design, developed to better resist water, dust and impacts.

It remains one of its main selling points: a mod designed to follow vapers who work outdoors, travel frequently or simply have a habit of dropping their gear a little more often than they would like to admit.

Rugged obviously does not mean indestructible, but the Solo 5 is clearly built to handle a more hectic everyday life than a conventional box mod.

Z Subohm Tank 5: the next-generation Zeus

The kit comes with the Z Subohm Tank 5, the latest evolution of Geekvape’s famous sub-ohm clearomiser.

Its capacity reaches 5.5 mL, while the adjustable top airflow provides a generous DTL draw while helping to reduce the risk of leaks. An 810 drip tip naturally complements this very airy setup.

The Z Subohm Tank 5 still uses Z Series coils, with a new Z XM Boost generation designed to improve flavour delivery and lifespan. Geekvape claims up to 60 mL of e-liquid vaporised per coil under optimal conditions.

How to fill the Z Subohm Tank 5

Geekvape uses a top-filling system with a sliding cap that remains attached to the clearomiser.

• open the filling system located at the top of the clearomiser
• fill the tank with your e-liquid up to 5.5 mL
• close the cap properly
• Important: with a new coil, wait around 10 minutes before vaping to allow the cotton to become fully saturated

Z XM Boost: two coils to start strong

The kit includes two Z XM Boost coils designed for generous DTL vaping:

• Z0.2 XM Boost 0.2 ohm (included): 70 to 80W - airy DTL vape - recommended PG/VG ratios from 30/70 to 20/80 - recommended nicotine strengths up to 3 mg/mL
• Z0.4 XM Boost 0.4 ohm (included): 50 to 60W - more moderate DTL vape - recommended PG/VG ratios from 40/60 to 30/70 - recommended nicotine strengths up to around 6 mg/mL

The 0.2 ohm version allows you to make full use of the kit’s generous performance, while the 0.4 ohm version offers a little more restraint without leaving the DTL world.

How to prime your coil

• install the coil in the clearomiser
• fill the tank with your e-liquid
• close the filling port properly
• wait around 10 minutes to allow the cotton to become fully saturated
• start at the lower end of the recommended wattage range before gradually increasing the power

Proper priming helps prevent premature burnt taste and delivers better performance from the very first puffs.

When should you replace your Z XM coil?

The coil should be replaced when:

• flavours become less precise
• vapour production decreases
• an unwanted taste appears
• a burnt taste starts to become noticeable

Lifespan will depend in particular on the power used, how frequently you vape and your e-liquid. Very sweet recipes tend to clog coils more quickly.

Why do we like the Aegis Solo 5?

Because Geekvape has not tried to reinvent a formula that was already working. The manufacturer has mainly improved the points that could genuinely make the experience better.

Moving to 21700 finally gives this single-battery box mod more endurance, the new screen is more comfortable to use, the return of the A-Lock system is welcome and the Z Subohm Tank 5 brings a real upgrade on the clearomiser side.
